On March 14th, Vice Consul Gusev of Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai visited SFL, and received a warm reception of Dean Hu Kaibao, Professor Yang Mingming and other professors from SFL.

Mr. Hu Kaibao firstly introduced the achievements of SFL. In recent years, following the strategy of cultivating international talents with interdisciplinary knowledge, SFL has made great progress through introducing scholars, deepening talent cultivation reform, and enhancing interdisciplinary research and international cooperation. According to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, modern linguistics and linguistics of SFL both entered top 100 in the world.

Gusev said, with the sound progress of China-Russia relations, Russian language, as a bridge between China and Russia, would play a more active role in cultural exchanges and economic exchanges between the two countries. He also suggested that SFL could cooperate with Schools of Foreign Languages in Russian universities to establish joint programs，exchange experts and conduct cooperative research.

Then, Hu Kaibao introduced the idea of building the Russian Department in SFL. Both sides exchanged opinions on ways to promote China-Russia cooperation through cultural activities like jointly held Russian language competitions.
