"Telling Chinese stories well and spreading Chinese voices" is a new task and challenge facing the current translation circle. In order to promote the multidimensional thinking of translation teaching and better cultivate translation talents in the new era, the award ceremony of 2021 Siyuan Huawei Cup Creative Translation Competition and the forum on Translation Competition and Translation Talents Cultivation in the New Era were held at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on October 31.

The award ceremony and forum were attended by Mr. Huang Youyi, Chairman of the China National Committee for Translation and Interpreting Education, Executive Vice President of Translators Association of China and Vice President of China Academy of Translation, Mr. Hu Hao, Director of the Publicity Department of SJTU and Member of the CPC SJTU Standing Committee, Mr. Li Chunxiao, Director of Technical Planning of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Mr. Wang Yang, Manager of Department Two of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Tao Youlan, Director of the Department of Translation of School of Foreign Languages of Fudan University, Li Mei, Director of the Master of Translation Program of School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University, Dou Weilin, Professor in charge of translation of School of Foreign Languages of East China Normal University, and other experts and scholars. Ding Jian, Secretary of CPC SFL Committee and Chang Hui, Executive Associate Dean of SFL and Zhu Yifan, Vice Secretary of CPC SFL Committee, attended the award ceremony. The event was hosted by Tao Qing, Associate Dean of SFL and Head of Department of Translation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Representatives of the winning contestants, representatives of the judges and SFL students attended.

Hu Hao delivered a speech for the ceremony on behalf of SJTU. Li Xiaochun expressed her heartfelt thanks to the SFL of SJTU for the publicity of the competition. Chang Hui delivered a speech on behalf of the SFL of SJTU. Tao Qing gave a brief review of the Competition. Mr. Guan Xinchao, representative of the judges of the competition also spoke.

Liu Yixuan from Tongji University, the first prize winner of the competition, delivered a speech. Zhu Xiaozhao of SJTU, the first prize winner of the Competition, shared his experience of winning the prize.

After the award ceremony, Mr. Huang Youyi, Chairman of the China National Committee for Translation and Interpreting Education, gave a keynote speech with the theme of "Doing A Good Job in Chinese to Foreign Translation: Bridging the Last Mile of Telling Chinese Stories". Li Xiaochun spoke on the theme of "The Inheritance and Sublimation of Translation in the Era of Human-Computer Integration". Zhu Yifan, Vice Secretary of CPC SFL Committee and Director of the Center for Translation and Intercultural Studies of SJTU, introduced the main members of the translation teaching and research team and the main situation of talent cultivation with the theme of "Promoting Research with Teaching and Feeding Teaching with Research".

In the afternoon, a forum on Translation Competition and Cultivation of Translation Talents in the New Era was held, which was hosted by Zhu Yifan. Professor Tao Youlan from Fudan University, Wang Yang from Department Two of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Li Mei and Li Xiaochun from Tongji University, Dou Weilin from East China Normal University, Liu Huawen, Tao Qing, Guan Xinchao, and Li Xin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave speeches respectively.

Zhu Yifan made a brief summary of the forum. She expressed her gratitude to the experts in the industry and expected that SFL could explore the understanding of translation innovation with the colleagues in the future, expand the boundary of translation teaching and promote the cultivation of translation talents to a new level.
