To ensure that "students keep learning and teachers keep researching when classes are suspended"  during the outbreak of epidemic, the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University actively explored the online teaching mode, and brought the first academic navigation series of lectures to the teachers and students of the school, which lasted from March 18 to March 30. A total of seven academic activities were held online, covering three areas of literature, linguistics and translation studies.

In the first lecture, Professor Liu Jianjun and Professor Shang Biwu were invited to have a dialogue on the theme of "What kind of literary research do we need today?". Chang Hui, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, attended and delivered an opening speech.

The second lecture, titled "What is language for? And what is linguistics for?", was given by Professor Wang Zhenhua, School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The third lecture, with the theme of "Frontiers of Translation Studies: Interpretation and Corpus Translation Studies", was given by Professor Liu Huawen from School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Pang Shuangzi, tenured associate professor from the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The fourth lecture invited Professor Ding Hongwei and Associate Professor Li Fei from the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University to talk about "Empirical Research in Linguistics".

The theme of the fifth lecture was "Academic Frontiers, Paper Writing and Publishing of Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies". The keynote speakers were Professor Peng Qinglong, Distinguished Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Professor Du Lanlan of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The sixth lecture was titled "Document Reading, Topic Selection and Theoretical Perspective in Translation Academic Paper Writing", and was given by Associate Professor Yu Jing from the School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The seventh lecture, with the theme of "Dependency Analyses in Applied Linguistics Research", was given by Professor Lei Lei from the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Chang Hui, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a closing speech.

The First Academic Navigation Series of Lectures at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University proved a complete success.
