On the afternoon of June 22, the graduation ceremony and degree awarding ceremony for the 2022 graduates of the School of Foreign Languages was held online. Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of SFL, and Chang Hui, Dean of SFL, Zhang Hongmei, Vice Dean of SFL, and Tao Qing, Vice Dean of SFL, Xing Lianqing, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of SFL, and Zhu Yifan, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of SFL, as well as department heads and teacher representatives attended the ceremony. The invited alumni, Chen Haibo, the 2006 graduate from the English Department and CFO of MaxMara Fashion Group, attended the event. Class 2022 undergraduate, master's and doctoral graduates gathered in "Cloud" to celebrate this unforgettable moment together. The graduation ceremony was presided over by Assistant Dean Huan Changpeng.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Chang Hui, on behalf of SFL, expressed warm congratulations and best wishes to all the graduates, and extended his high respect and heartfelt thanks to the parents and teachers who have been nurturing, cultivating and accompanying the students to grow into talents. In his speech, Chang Hui affirmed the outstanding performance of the graduates in "acting bravely, striving for responsibility" and being active in the front line of the fight against the epidemic. At the same time, he pointed out that "the change in the epidemic is just a prelude to the change in the times", and encouraged the graduates to have the courage to dare to be the first, the confidence of lifelong learning and the atmosphere of helping each other, to grow into pioneers of national rejuvenation and human progress. In the end, Chang Hui warmly urged the graduates to visit SFL often, who will always welcome them with open arms.

Lin Zibo, a teacher representative from the Japanese Department, recalled his regret of missing his doctor's graduation ceremony when he was a student and told the students to learn to accept it calmly and stick to their responsibilities and undertakings amid the dramatic change in the epidemic. He hoped that the graduates will always think about the days and nights of diligent work in SFL, the unremitting struggle for a happy life in their youth, so that this passion and drive can replace the confusion of relentless competition and find their own sea of stars.

Ding Jian read out the list of "2022 Outstanding Graduates of Universities in Shanghai" and "2022 Outstanding Graduates of Shanghai Jiao Tong University" from the School of Foreign Languages, encouraging them to forge ahead and strive for the first on the road of life in the future .

Tao Qing announced the appointment list of Class Directors for Class 2022 and urged the graduates to continue to work hard and keep in touch. The alumni will always be concerned about and accompany their growth.

Chen Haibo, an alumni representative, first recalled her academic career in SFL, and then expressed gratitude for its academic philosophy of "connecting the past with the present, bridging the Chinese and the West", which has cultivated streams of new liberal arts talents with patriotic emotion and an international perspective. She encouraged the alumni who were about to step out of the ivory tower to always cherish their family-country emotion, make good use of innovative thinking, be down-to-earth, and seize every minute in their future life journey, so as to hold the long cord in their hands and tie the dragon of the times.  

Wu Jingyi, the representative of undergraduate graduates, started with her four-year linguistics major, and expressed her affection to SFL. Linguistics, as a master key, led her to break through the barriers of time and space, to talk to the past and present, to explore the Chinese and Western, and to touch the infinite possibilities of interdisciplinary. She attributed all this to the teachers' words and deeds, the students' discussion, and SFL’s inclusiveness. She sincerely thanked SFL for handing over to all graduates the charm of language, the ability of life-long learning and self-exploration. 

Yu Ruiheng, a representative of the graduate students, said that the study in SFL extended her academic depth and broadened the dimension of her life. She recalled the early days when she stayed in the library with her classmates, formed a project team, and stayed up late to finish a presentation. With common interests and sincere love, teachers and students came to understand and accompany each other through the years. The love and care between classmates and teachers will be treasured assets for their whole life. 

Wu Baohua, director of the Japanese Department, Du Lanlan, director of the English Department, and Shang Biwu, director of the Interdisciplinary Narrative Research  Center, presided over the Tassel-turning ceremony. 

At the end of the graduation ceremony, teachers and students moved to the venues of each department, where they took group photos online, interacted with each other, and said goodbye.

Let us wish that the 2022 graduates of SFL will cherish the school motto of "Never forget the source when drinking water. Always remember to love one’s country and honor one’s alumini", practice the school spirit of "connecting the past and the present, bridging the Chinese and Western", stick to aspirations of a pure heart and write a regret-free life chapter. We will meet in another mountain and sea!
