On the afternoon of September 9, 2022, the appointment announcement meeting of the Vice Dean and member of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was successfully held. Zhang Ansheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mao Weiwei, Deputy Director of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Director of the Veteran Cadre Division, as well as members of the leadership team of the School of Foreign Languages, department directors, the secretaries of the Party branch of the faculty, cadres and other faculty and staff representatives attended the meeting. Mao Weiwei hosted the meeting.

Mao Weiwei read out the appointment decision of the CPC Shanghai Jiao Tong University Party Committee, and announced that Comrade Shang Biwu was appointed as the Vice Dean and a member of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Shang Biwu expressed his gratitude for the party committee’s trust and teachers’ support, and said that he would adapt to the role as soon as possible, further strengthen the political awareness, overall situation awareness and sense of responsibility, devote himself to SFL’s discipline development and scientific research development, and make every effort to promote the "high-level, elite, professional" postgraduate training work so as to live up to the organization and colleagues’ trust and expectations.

Chang Hui, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, thanked the university for its support and concern for the School of Foreign Languages, and thanked Mr. Peng Qinglong for his outstanding contributions to School of Foreign Language’s discipline development and scientific research and congratulated Mr. Shang Biwu on his appointment. He said that Mr. Shang was an excellent scientific researcher and had made fruitful contributions to the training of young teachers in SFL and accumulated experience in administrative services from his work. It was believed that his joining the team will further promote the discipline development, scientific research construction and in-depth integration of multiple disciplines in School of Foreign Languages, and jointly help it on the way towards a better future.
Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages, delivered a speech on behalf of the school leadership. Ding Jian said that School of Foreign Languages firmly supported the decision of the university’s Party Committee, thanking it for its attention and concern of the school’s leadership construction, congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu, and thanked Comrade Peng Qinglong for his remarkable contribution to SFL’s development during his term as vice dean. It was hoped that Comrade Shang Biwu will complete his identity change as soon as possible, unite with the team members, be dedicated to his work, give full play to his own strengths, actively perform his duties, and contribute to SFL’s development with practical actions. At the same time, it was also hoped that all SFL faculty ans staff supported Comrade Shang Biwu's work actively. It was believed that with the concerted efforts of SFL teachers and students, there can be no doubt that SFL would surely achieve more new breakthroughs.

In his concluding speech, Zhang Ansheng congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu on his appointment, fully affirmed his "solid, down-to-earth and pragmatic" temperament of Shanghai Jiao Tong  University, and looked forward to the day when he will unite the SFL teachers, inspire their scientific research creativity, and stimulate their inner driving force. Zhang Ansheng hoped that the SFL will maintain a vigorous and upward development momentum, conscientiously implement the spirit of the central government, Shanghai and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, work together with one heart and one mind, adhere to educating people for the party and the country, and implement SFL’s 14th Five-Year Plan, quickly promote the construction of first-class school of foreign languages, make more contributions in Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s journey to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, and welcome the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with practical actions.
