The 20th CPC National Congress opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of Oct 16th. Xi Jinping, on behalf of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, delivered a report at the opening session of the congress. Many SFL students watched it online and have been greatly encouraged and inspired by the report.

Since the 19th National Congress, The Party Central Committee has pursued a strategy of national rejuvenation amid global changes of a magnitude not seen in a century, and has made major strategic plans for advancing the cause of the Party and the country. The Central Committee has brought together the entire Party, the military, and the Chinese people and led them in effectively responding to grave, intricate international developments and a series of immense risks and challenges. With great effort and determination, we have steadily advanced socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. 

A nation will prosper when its young people thrive. As new youth of modern China in the new era, we are living in a remarkable time. We should always remember the Party’s benevolence, understand the Party’s policies, follow the Party and its guidance, aim high but stay grounded, dare to think big and take action but make sure we can deliver. So that we can display our full talents on an incomparably broad stage, march forward to realize our dreams with incomparably bright prospects, endeavor to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects, so that our youth and vitality will bloom in full splendor.

In retrospect and looking ahead, we realize that the period from the 19th CPC National Congress to the 20th is the historical intersection to realize the dream of Two Centenaries. One’s fate is closely interconnected with the country’s development. As young people of the new era, we should take up the torch of the time, align our personal development with that of the country, integrate ourselves into the bigger social environment, carry forward the Chinese spirit of fearlessly forging ahead, pursue the dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation relentlessly, make more and bigger contributions to the society and the country.

Since the 18th National Congress, extraordinary achievements have been made in the cause of the Party and the country. The last decade witnessed various challenges and setbacks, but the Party and the country confronted them and achieved one glory after another. 

As successors of the new age, we will shoulder the historical mission, hold lofty ideals, strengthen self-cultivation, adjust mental attitude, take the right position, work diligently and tirelessly, cultivate a sense of responsibility, pursue life-long learning, adapt to the society by learning ceaselessly, boost strategic confidence, maintain strategic soberness, and build mental strength. We will hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese Characteristics and write the new chapter of building a modern socialist country in all respects.

Since the 18th National Congress, we have secured historic achievements and seen historic changes in the cause of the Party and the country. The Party leads the Chinese people to forge ahead with resolve, making spectacular achievements, creating one glory after another, accomplishing the historic feat of rich country and strong people. 

As Party members, we will integrate our personal ideals and pursuits into the journey of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. In areas where the country needs us the most, we will spare no efforts to serve the people with our whole heart. We will inspire ourselves with the stories of those representatives to the 20th National Congress, forge ahead on the new road with stronger sense of responsibility and mission and initiative, so as to prove worthy of the expectation of the Party and the people.

In the golden autumn of October, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened in Beijing amid the joy of harvest. After a hundred years’ journey, the Communist Party of China stays confident and builds strength, upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, forging ahead with enterprise and fortitude. In response to the sudden outbreak of Covid-19, the Party put the people and their lives above all else and took drastic measures, which not only claims responsibility for Chinese people’s health, but also makes great contribution to the world public health security, spreading Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions, presenting the image of a responsible great power to the world. 

Looking ahead, as a student from the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, we will work hard at our academic fields, stay active, enterprising, innovative, striving, carrying on the revolutionary genes, telling China’s stories well, make China’s voice heard, becoming inter-disciplinary talents with patriotic feeling, global vision and professional skills, a new generation that can take upon the task of national rejuvenation.
