Recently, the ranking of "The 14th Shanghai International Studies University CASIO Cup Speech Contest for Chinese Undergraduates and PostGraduates Majoring in Japanese", which was jointly held by Shanghai International Studies University, the Japanese Sub-Committee of the Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, China Association for Japanese Language Teaching, and Casio (China) Trading Co., LTD., was announced. Li Ying, from Grade 2019 of SFL’s Japanese Department, won the first prize.

With the title of "The lifeview of the ‘lying flat’ tribe", Li Ying combined her own experiences with the theme of the speech, and analyzed the topic of "lying flat" thoroughly, with fluent language and sharp viewpoint, fully showing the elegance of contemporary college students. Finally, she stood out among the contestants from 72 universities across the country and entered the final. After competing on the same stage with contestants from Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and other famous universities in China, Li Ying claimed the first prize, winning honor for Shanghai Jiao Tong Universisty. 

During the competition, Ryohei Watanabe and Huang Jianxiang from the Japanese Department provided Li Ying  with careful guidance, which fully demonstrated SFL teachers’  original mission of teaching and cultivating talents.

"Shanghai International Studies University CASIO Cup Speech Contest for Chinese Undergraduates and Post-graduates majoring in Japanese" is a national high-level speech contest and a traditional contest in Japanese teaching in Chinese universities. The aim of the competition is to showcase students' Japanese language ability, expressive ability and critical thinking ability, to promote the communication between undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in Japanese, and to broaden their vision and improve their ability.
