On the afternoon of January 13th, the School of Foreign Languages held the 2022 annual work summary meeting, which was attended by the school leaders and all faculty members. The meeting was presided over by Ding Jian, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages.

Ding Jian introduced the new staff and retired staff in the second half of 2022, and extended a warm welcome to the new staff. At the same time, he thanked the retired staff for their hard work  and congratulated them on their honorable retirement and starting a new journey in life.

The commendation list of 2022 SFL Annual Contribution Award, the 2022 Fourth Quarter "Learning Power", "Advanced Learning Party Branch" and "Learning Activist" were announced at the meeting.

Chang Hui, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, made a summary of the work in 2022. This year, the faculty and students of SFL worked together to overcome difficulties, steadily promoted various work, and achieved excellent results in various aspects. The result of discipline evaluation reached a new level. The integration reform and practice of "learning, teaching and testing" in college English has been approved as one of the first Virtual Teaching and Research Offices by the Ministry of Education and has won he first prize of Shanghai Teaching Achievements. The German major has been selected as a national first-class undergraduate major. The number of national and provincial Social Science Fund Projects and high-level papers has reached a record high. The post-doctoral team has achieved the best results in history. Remarkable achievements have been made in curriculum construction, teaching materials construction, students’ awards, as well as practical education and employment guidance. The students’ employment rate ranked among the best in liberal arts. The alumni’s basic organizational structure has been established. Alumni donations have been actively put into place. The ability to serve the society has been improved constantly. SFL’s reputation and influence has been upgraded consistently. In the new year, all the faculty and staff will unite as one, work hard and forge ahead, and work together to push all the work to a new level by closely centering on SFL’s 14th Five-Year construction Plan.

Shang Biwu, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, introduced the new reform plan of the management method of scientific research funds and reported the organized scientific research of the school. He elaborated on the new round of scientific research fund management from seven points of revision. At the same time, the important scientific research achievements of the school in the past five years were reviewed and summarized. On this basis, the goals and priorities of SFL’s future scientific research work were pointed out.

Finally, Ding Jian made a concluding speech. He expressed his gratitude to all the teachers and students of SFL for their hard work in the past year, and fully affirmed their excellent achievements in overcoming the impact of the epidemic and sticking to their posts. Ding Jian expressed the expectation that all the teachers and students of the school will continue to unite as one and work hard in the New Year, attach great importance to the change of the epidemic, reduce the impact of the epidemic, stay true to the original inspiration, gather their strength, continue to strive for the construction of a harmonious school and a first-class discipline of foreign languages, and push various undertakings to a new height.
