On March 21, 2023, the sixth lecture of "Research Methodology Training Camp for Postgraduates" was successfully held in the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Professor Deng Yaochen, Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Languages and Foreign Language Teaching, and Professor Liu Xiuying, Editorial Director of Foreign Literature Research, were invited as guest speakers. The lecture was organized by Prof. Shang Biwu and attended by young teachers and PhD students.

Professor Deng Yaochen introduced the philosophy and positioning of Foreign Languages and Foreign Language Teaching, its main columns and their characteristics, the process of selecting topics, and the principles of manuscript selection. He encouraged students to adopt a down-to-earth attitude to do research and produce thoughtful and innovative academic research paper.

Professor Liu Xiying discussed the main approaches to foreign literature research from the four elements of works, writers, worlds and readers, emphasizing the importance of combining internal and external research. He explained in detail the manuscript selection standards of Foreign Literature Studies in terms of its features and its permanent columns, encouraging students to carry out interdisciplinary research, keep up with the academic frontier and improve their academic sensitivity. 

During the Q&A session, Professors Deng Yaochen and Liu Xiuying gave detailed answers to the students’ specific difficulties in their topic selection, writing and submission. Professor Shang Biwu summarized the lecture and expressed his gratitude to the two professors. 

The lecture was held successfully and had inspired the teachers and students.
