SFL Stdudent Wins the Championship in the 11th All China Interpretation Contest(English)

Recently, the final results of the 11th All China Interpretation Contest were announced. Cui Yibao, a postgraduate student majoring in translation from Class 2011 of the School of Foreign Languages, won the national championship (English) on behalf of the School of Foreign Lanuages with her solid professional skills and strong mindset. Mrs. Dai Rongrong won the Outstanding Instructor Award and Outstanding Team Leader Award. Shanghai Jiao Tong University won the Outstanding Team Award. 

 


All China Interpretation Contest (English) is one of the largest and most valuable interpretation contests in China. This year’s contest was directed by China Foreign Languages Publilshing Administration, and sponsored by Translators Association of China and organized by Language Service Industry Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center of Translators Association of China. Nearly 10,000 outstanding contestants from more than 500 universities and colleges in provinces and cities from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao Special Adminstrative Regions and Taiwan and from overseas universities, participated in the preliminary, quarter-final and regional competitions. After various levels of selection, a total of 111 contestants were shortlisted for the final Top 10 Elite Qualifying Round, which consisted of two parts: English-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-English consecutive interpretation. The contestants interpreted in both English and Chinese on hot topics such as “energy saving in buildings”, “The Nord Stream pipeline incident” and “the new government’s policy objectives”. 

The contest gained strong support from the School of Foreign Languages, which provided comprehensive training and guarantee for the participating teachers and students. Mrs. Dai Rongrong, who was in charge of the team leading and training, spared no efforts to improve the situation. 

 

 


The School of Foreign Langages has always attached great importance to the important role of contests in professional development and students’ growth and has always encouraged teachers and students to put their knowledge into application, and use the contests to promote learning.
