On April 8, 2023, more than two hundred alumni of the School of Foreign Languages gathered at Minhang Campus to celebrate the 127th anniversary of the founding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. At 10:00 a.m., the conference to commemorate the 127th anniversary of the founding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held at the Fok Ying Tung Stadium, Minhang Campus.

At 1:30 p.m., the opening ceremony of 2023 Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Foreign Languages Doctoral Alumni Forum was held in the 300 Lecture Hall of Yang Yongman Building. On behalf of the school, Party Secretary Mr. Ding Jian extended a warm welcome to the returning alumni and thanked all the doctoral alumni for their consistent support for the development of the School. This year marks the 25th anniversary of founding of the SFL. He proposed an outlook for SFL's future development and expressed his gratitude to the alumni's support during last year's epidemic prevention and control period. It was hoped that the SFL would carry out cooperation and exchanges with the alumni in more diversified forms in the future and looked forward to their frequent visits to the SFL. Mr. Chang Hui,the Dean of SFL, gave an introduction to the guests. He made a comprehensive introduction to the rapid development of the SFL in recent years from the aspect of its overview, personnel training, faculty construction, discipline development, international cooperation, social services and so on. At present, the SFL ranks the first in the field of foreign languages and literature in China, and has made fruitful achievements in the field of arts and sciences. Vice Dean Shang Biwu introduced the discipline layout of the school. At present, the school has formed an initial pattern of "one body and two wings" ,with linguistics as the main body and literature and translation studies as the two wings. The forum was presided over by Vice Dean Tao Qing.

 

During the keynote speech stage, six doctoral alumni representatives exchanged views according to their own research directions.

The Siyuan team (15 alumni) participated in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Football Invitation Tournament and won the fifth place in the Siyuan group.

 

On the morning of April 9th, the school held the Doctoral Forum  on linguistics, Translation and literature and alumni panels respectively. The School leaders and the alumni representatives of the undergraduate, master and doctoral programmes from all over the world expressed their views on the discipline development, graduates employment and personal development, discussed the work of alumni and the school's future development plan.  The 2008 alumni of the Japanese major shared thei classmates' recent status.

During the two-day school celebration, the alumni of the School of Foreign Languages gained a new understanding of the development of the school.  SFL will also organize more alumni activities in the future to create more opportunities for communication.
