On April 1, the award ceremony of 2022 "Siyuan Huawei Cup" Creative Translation Competition and the roundtable forum "Cultivating Translation Talents in the Digital Age" were held at the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Experts gathered together to explore the cultivatin of new translation talents in line with the needs of the times and promoted the construction of translation capacity.

Attending the award ceremony and forum were Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of the Translators Association of China and Vice President of the China Academy of Translation ; Hu Hao, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Committee and head of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Li Hourui, Deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Jiang Yanfei, Director of the Translation Center of Huawei Technologies Co., LTD.; Yu Yili, Chief editor of China Daily Shanghai Bureau; Zhang Li, Director of the Second Language Service Department of Huawei Translation Center; Li Xiaochun, senior translator of Huawei Translation Center; Zhang Ailing, Dean of the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation from Shanghai International Studies University; Tao Youlan, director of the Translation Department of Fudan University; Li Mei, Professor of the School of Foreign Languages of Tongji University; Zhao Hong, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, East China University of Science and Technology; Liu Qin, Dean of School of Foreign Languages from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Pan Weimin, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai University of Electric Power, and other experts. Ding Jian, Secretary of Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhu Yifan, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee attended; Representatives of the winning students, judges and students from the School of Foreign Languages were present at the ceremony. The event was hosted by Tao Qing, Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages and Dean of Translation Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Hu Hao hoped that the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huawei Translation Center would consolidate cooperation and complement each other's advantages, push the training and development of foreign language talents to a new height, and contribute to the construction of China's international communication capacity.

Jiang Yanfei encouraged the contestants to take this competition as a starting point to further enrich their practical experience, refine their translation skills, tell Chinese stories well on the world stage, and contribute wisdom and strength to the "going global" of Chinese enterprises.

Ding Jian said that in the future, SFL will continue to strengthen cooperation between the school and enterprises, take the initiative to align national strategies, help students develop a broad perspective with a forward-looking vision, and practice their responsibilities as foreign language speakers in the new era with more professional skills and more pragmatic actions.

Huang Youyi delivered a video speech, in which he expected the contestants to deconstruct international communication in the new era from a more professional perspective, integrate ancient and modern Chinese and foreign countries, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, improve their business capabilities, and cultivate great power thinking, so as to build a bridge of communication between China and the rest of the world, and make bold steps forward on the road of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Jiang Yanfei, Zhang Ailing, Ding Jian, Yu Yilai, Li Hourui, Zhang Li, Yang Yanning, Zhao Hong, Liu Qin and Pan Weimin presented certificates and prizes to the winners.

Judge representative Guan Xinchao made a brief review of 2022 "Siyuan Huawei Cup" Creative Translation Competition.

Yuan Jie and Liu Zhiling, the first prize winners of this competition, delivered their acceptance speeches respectively.

After the award ceremony, Jiang Yanfei, Zhang Ailing, Yu Yilai and Hu Hai gave their presentations.

The afternoon roundtable forum "Cultivating Translation Talents in the Digital Age" was hosted by Zhu Yifan. Zhu Yifan finally summarized the roundtable forum, saying that the participating experts who had long been deeply involved in the translation industry and who had profound insights into the cultivating of translation talents, had had various outlooks. It is expected that the School of Foreign Languages will continue to strengthen exchanges with colleagues in the field in the future, expand the dimension of translation teaching and blaze a new trail for the cultivating of translation talents.
