On December 7, the final of the 2023 "FLTRP-GuoCai Cup------Understanding Contemporary China" National Foreign Language Proficiency Competition for College Students (Multilingual group) took place in Beijing. He Jiahao, a postgraduate student from the German department of Class 2023, won the third place and the gold award in the German group. Zhao Jialu, an undergraudate student from the German department of Class 2020, won the silver award in the German group.

A total of more than 15,000 university students participated in the university and provincial stages of the competition in the multilingual group, of which 481 players from 227 universities across the country advanced to the national stage. After the university-level, provincial-level and the first stage of the national competition, He Jiahao and Zhao Jialu successfully advanced to the final.  After fierce competition in Chinese and foreign interpretation, impromptu speech and answering questions, He Jiahao and Zhao Jialu stood out from 170 multilingual players from 93 universities across the country. He Jiahao won the third place and the gold medal in the German group. Zhao Jialu won the silver medal in the German group.

The multi-lingual group of "FLTRP · Guopai Cup" competition, a newly-developed one, evolved from the "FLTRP · Guopai Cup" English series, which had been running for more than 20 years. The multi-lingual group of the competition covered 8 languages, including Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Italian and Portuguese. With the theme of "Understanding China, Communicating with the World", the competition aimed to guide the contestants to understand the road of China, write about the governance of China, clarify the principles of China, and spread the voice of China, while basing oneself on China's national conditions and opening one's eyes to the whole world.

The excellent performance of the German students of Shanghai Jiao Tong university in the competition showed the style of the students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and also fully reflected the German major's advanced talent training concept and excellent education and teaching quality. The instructor Xue Song, who had rich experience in competition coaching, led the students to carry out high-quality sprint training to ensure their stable performance. It was expected that the students will continue to ride the waves, shoulder the mission of the times and tell the stories of contemporary China better.
