On December 8, 2023, students from the German Department of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), seven foreign students from Germany, Poland, Belgium, Australia and the Netherlands, and exchange students, led by Wang Shaoyang from the School of Foreign Languages, took part in the one-day study tour "Meet U in CEAir" organized by huanqiu.com and China Eastern Airlines.

At 9:30 a.m., teachers and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University arrived at the China Eastern Airlines Technology Application Research and Development Center, while nearly 30 foreign students from seven different countries, including Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai International Studies University and Shanghai University, also took part in the activity. Through the professional introduction by the staff, everyone had a general understanding of the development history of China Eastern Airlines, the number of airplanes, and the types of passenger planes.

Accelerate, pull the lever, and the plane rises into the air. ...... Inside the A350 flight simulator at the China Eastern Airlines Technology Application Research and Development Center, each person had the opportunity to experience a real flight, with the captain in the backseat giving appropriate guidance to the "novice" pilots. At the end of the test flight, they can turn the simulator to the landing mode to experience how to land the airliner on the ground first-hand. 

At noon, the visiting team was led to the cafeteria, where they enjoyed special flight food with the staff and were truly immersed in the daily life of China Eastern's technicians. Students from different countries exchanged ideas and got to know each other in an animated atmosphere.

In the afternoon, the group observed the flight attendant training and had the opportunity to try the aircraft door switch in person, followed by a VR round-the-plane inspection, in which the VR glasses showed the real appearance of the aircraft whose various parts could be inspected with the control handle, and experienced the flight crew's routine daily inspection process. Finally, they went to the air security training ground where they exercised under the guidance of professional staff, realizing how intense the training of an aviation safety officer was on a daily basis.

After the event, international students expressed that they had gained a lot. Gosia from Poland tweeted on instagram, "What an unforgettable day!" The staff of huanqiu.com and China Eastern Airlines expressed their heartfelt thanks to Wang Shaoyang, the leading teacher from the German Department, and Zhang Zhiyu, Wu Maojie, and Mao Luxuan, fellow volunteers from the German Department. Such a study tour not only helped strengthen communication between Chinese and international students, but also help international students to understand China better.

The one-day study tour, at which China Eastern Airlines and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University met, were held for the second time this year. This activity was successfully carried out under the early contact of Xue Yuan, head of the German Department of the School of Foreign Languages. The students benefited a lot from the study tour, enhancing their aviation knowledge and broadening their horizons.
