On the afternoon of March 13, the faculty meeting of the School of Foreign Languages for the Spring/Summer Semester of 2024 was held in the Lecture Hall, No. 300, Young Yongman Building. The meeting conveyed the spirit of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's recent meeting, deployed the key work in 2024, commended the 2023 Annual Contribution Award, introduced the new staff and so on. All the faculty and staff attended the conference, which was presided over by Ren Zhujing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages.

Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, conveyed the spirit of the 11th Plenary Committee of the 11th Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the spirit of the Two Sessions, and led the study of the univeristy's Plenary Committee's work report named "Seize the opportunity, Maintain integrity, Keep Innovating to Climb Higher", and 2024 State Council's Government Work Report. Ding Jian said that the SFL Party Committee will closely focus on the fundamental task of moral education, implement the responsibility of teaching and educating people, unite the whole school's teachers and students, comprehensively implement the new development concept, and serve to build a new development pattern.

Chang Hui, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, introduced the work priorities of the SFL in 2024, and made specific arrangements for the key work of the year from four aspects: talent training, discipline research, teaching staff and social services. He said that standing at a new starting point, it wass necessary to actively respond to the new challenges in the development of foreign language education in colleges and universities, and it was hoped that the faculty and staff of the SFL will work together, continue to carry out organized scientific research, continue to promote the reform of public English teaching, continue to strengthen the construction of teachers, continue to promote the deep integration of production, learning and research, and have the courage to meet opportunities and challenges to help the school steadily improve its work.

In the welcome session for new faculty members, two new teachers, Li Jincai and Wang Bowen, introduced themselves.

At the meeting, the teachers who won the 2023 SFL Annual Contribution Award were commended. Four teachers, Jin Wenfeng, Lin Yi, Li Peng and Xue Song, won the first prizes and four teachers, Lv Qianxi, Yu Jing, Wang Wang and Suo Yuhuan, won the second prizes. Ding Jian and Chang Hui presented certificates to the award-winning teachers and took a group photo. The award-winning teachers made acceptance speeches in turn.

In the new semester, with a new atmosphere and a new journey ahead, the School of Foreign Languages will adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and people, support the training of first-class talents with high-quality foreign language teaching, and serve the country and society with first-class language and culture research results. It is expected that all the faculty and staff of the School will pool their wisdom and efforts to maintain a good development trend, bravely open new chapters, and help the School of Foreign Languages achieve new success!
