On the afternoon of October 17, the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University held a meeting of teachers and cadres, announcing the appointment and dismissal of the Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages.  Zhou Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of SJTU,  Liu Weidong, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of SJTU, Fang Xi, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department of SJTU, and the leadership team and faculty and staff of the SFL participated in the meeting, which was chaired by Fang Xi.

 

 

Fang Xi, on behalf of the party committee of SJTU, read out the relevant decisions: Comrade Shang Biwu has been appointed as the Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Comrade Chang Hui has been dismissed from the position of the Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

 

 

Chang Hui delivered a farewell speech. He expressed his firm support for the decision of the Party Committee of SJTU, sincerely thanked the University Party Committee for its trust and the support of the SFL teachers and students, and congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu on his appointment as the Dean of the SFL. He recalled the unforgettable experience of working together with everyone during his study and work in the SFL, and said that he would continue to care about and support the work of the SFL in his new post in the graduate School, and jointly contribute to the development of the SFL and SJTU.

 

Shang Biwu made a statement in office. He sincerely thanked the University’ trust, and thanked Comrade Chang Hui and other predecessors for laying a solid foundation, and SFL’s teachers and students’ strong support. He said that he will adapt to the position as soon as possible, continue to strengthen political awareness, overall awareness and sense of responsibility, and work with the party leadership to unite and cooperate, gather people, gather strength, seek development in the reform, seek breakthroughs in the development, and make unremitting efforts to achieve the leapfrog development of the SFL, and comprehensively promote the work of the SFL to a new level.

 

 

Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the SFL, spoke on behalf of the SFL leadership. He expressed his firm support for the decision of SJTU’s Party Committee, thanked Comrade Chang Hui for his contribution to the development of the SFL, and congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu on his appointment as the dean and deputy secretary of the party committee of the SFL. SFL’s leadership team will unite and lead all the teachers and students of the SFL to make concerted efforts to plan various undertakings, integrate all aspects of resources, abide by the rules and dare to innovate, forge ahead, create a new situation, and make SFL’s due contribution to the work of the university. 

 

Liu Weidong spoke as the contact leader of the university. He first expressed his gratitude to Comrade Chang Hui for his contributions over the years and congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu on his appointment. He affirmed the achievements made by the SFL in teaching reform, academic research and talent cultivation in recent years, and hoped that under the party leadership, the SFL would gather the consensus of teachers and students, make a good top-level design, lay out the direction of characteristic advantages on the basis of maintaining the traditional advantageous fields, actively develop cross-disciplines, focus on strengthening the recruitmenet of talents and faculty training, and help every teacher to grow and develop, hop on board and brave the wave of “new liberal arts”, and climb new peaks. 

 

Zhou Cheng spoke on behalf of the party committee of the university. He expressed his gratitude for the contributions made by Comrade Chang Hui during his tenure and congratulated Comrade Shang Biwu on his appointment. He said that the party committee of the university attached great importance to the construction of the SFL’s leadership team, fully affirmed the achievements of the SFL in recent years, and hoped that the SFL leadership will bear in mind its  original aspiration, take up its mission, continue to struggle, strengthen planning and coordination, lead the teachers and students to strengthen confidence, take advantage of the momentum, do a good job, facilitate every teacher's development, and promote each student's growth. With a more energetic attitude, a more vigorous fighting spirit and a more pragmatic style, the SFL was expected to write a new chapter of high-quality development. 

 

In the future, under the strong leadership of the Party Committee of the university, the SFL will further build consensus and form joint forces, do a good job in teaching staff, talent training, discipline development and other work, make SFL’s greater contributions to the university in building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics!
