The First Frontier Forum on Philosophy of Language of the School of Foreign Languages Successfully Held

From March 7th to 8th, the first Frontier Forum on Philosophy of Language of the School of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was successfully held. This forum was hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and co-organized by the Editorial Office of Contemporary Foreign Language Studies and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press. With English as the working language, the forum attracted over sixty experts and scholalrs specializing in linguistics and philosophy from renowned universities at home and abroad, including the City University of New York, Peking University. They focused on cutting-edge issues in contemporary philosophy of language, shared the latest research findings and academic insights, and contributed wisdom and strength to the development and innovation of philosophy of language. 

 

 

The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Li Jincai, a tenured associate professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Professor Shang Biwu, the dean of the School of Foreign Languages, delivered the opening speech, and extended a warm welcome to all the participants. He pointed out that language was the foundation of cognition, culture and civilization, and emphasized the significance of the study of language philosophy in exploring the relationship between language and reality and look forward to the scholars present to exchange ideas, generate innovative results and foster cross-disciplinary cooperation through academic dialogue, and wished the forum a complete success. 

After the opening ceremony, the forum moved on to the keynote report session. This forum focused on three major topics: contemporary new explorations of classic issues in the philosophy of language, the development trends and critical reflections of experimental philosophy of language, and new methods and perspectives in contemporary philosophy of language research. A total of 16 special academic reports were scheduled. 

The successful holding of this forum has effectively promoted in-depth dialogue and collaborative innovation in the fields of linguistics and philosophy both at home and abroad, and has injected impetus into the paradigm transformation and theoretical innovation of language philosophy in the new era. The transnational academic community formed by the forum will continue to drive innovative research on core propositions in the field of language philosophy.
