The 2025 Spring Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony of the School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in the auditorium of Yang Yongman Building on the afternoon of March 26, 2025. Present at the ceremony were Shang Biwu, SFL's dean; Zhu Yifan, SFL's Party Secretary; Tao Qing, SFL's vice dean; Zhang Yifan, SFL's vice Party Secretary; Zheng Fengchao, Director of the English Department; Jin Wenfeng, Director of the Japanese Department; Xue Yuan, Director of the German Department; as well as faculty and class teacher representatives, including Yang Feng, Yang Mingming, Zhang Li, Wu Shiyu, Wang Pin, Li Xin, Yu Yang, Lin Ling, Zou Li, and Sang Yuan. They gathered to celebrate the successful completion of studies by the 2025 Spring graduating postgraduates, sending them off on a new journey. The ceremony was presided over by Su Liuliu, Head of the Student Affairs Office. 

 

On the noon of March 26th, the SFL teachers took a group photo with the graduates. 

 

With the solemn national anthem, the SFL 2025 Spring Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony was grandly opened. 

 

On behalf of the SFL, Shang Biwu delivered a speech with the theme of "Let the spirit of scientific research become an attitude of our life." He extended his sincere blessings to all the graduates and recalled the challenges and the unforgettable moments they had shared during their research journey at the SFL. He pointed out that the spirit of scientific research is a truth-seeking attitude towards the world, the courage to explore in the face of uncertainty, and a practice that connects ideals with reality. He hoped that the graduates would carry the torch of the spirit of scientific research, maintaining the sharpness of inquiry, the clarity of criticism, the patience of iteration, and the mindset of connection. He encouraged them to explore themselves as they would  the unknown and to safeguard the light in their hearts as they would academic integrity. He wished them to make a splendid transformation from "graduates of the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University" to "graduates of the world," and to write a new chapter of their lives with the spirit of scientific research as their pen, one that is both rigorous and romantic. 

 

Zhang Li spoke on behalf of the tutors. She encouraged the graduates to maintain an upbeat and enterprising attitude, focus on strengthening practical skills, integrate the theoretical knowledge into daily practice, enhance their comprehensive quality and ability level, deepen research in their professional fields, and be flexible in adapting to the changes and development of society, ultimately achieving their own life value. 

 

Tao Qing read out the list of Year 2025 Outstanding Graduates of the School of Foreign Languages. Shang Biwu and Zhu Yifan presented the certificates of honor to the award-winning students and encouraged the graduates to always keep an enterprising spirit, continue to pursue excellence in their future study and work, and achieve outstanding results that live up to this era and their youth.

Tao Qing announced the list of class council members for the 2025 graduating class of the School of Foreign Languages. He hoped that the class council members would fully play their role as a bridge and link, maintain close contact with alumni, the school and the university, and contribute to the development of alumni careers and the construction of the alma mater.

He Kanjing, a representative of the doctoral graduates, spoke. She called on the graduates to take the initiative to integrate their personal ideals and pursuits into the grand blueprint of realizing the Chinese Dream, consciously conform to the demands of the national development strategy, and contribute their modest efforts to the development of the country and society. 

 

Zhang Jiaqi, a representative of the master's graduates, spoke. Looking back on the time  studying here, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the school and the teachers. She also inspired students to bear the heavy responsibility of the times and fulfill their mission in the new workplace.  

 

With the sound of music, the 2025 Spring Graduation Ceremony for Postgraduates' Degree Conferral began solemnly. Graduates went up to the stage one by one to receive their degrees. Their tutors adjusted their caps and tassels and presented them with their degree certificates.

During the gift-giving session, Zhu Yifan, on behalf of the SFL, presented the graduating student representatives with custom-made graduation gowns and commemorative albums carefully prepared by the school, which represented the never-ending care and attention to the students' growth and progress, and also the hope that the students will always cherish the precious memories of their studies here. Yang Chuying, on behalf of the graduates, presented the school with a weighing scale, symbolizing health and balance, and also the best wishes of all the graduates for their alma mater. 

 

 

The fragrance of peach blossoms and plum blossoms lingered in the air, just as the teachers' unforgettable kindness. Graduates presented flowers to their teachers. The earnest teachings and meticulous guidance of the past were highlighted in each affectionate embrace, demonstrating the unchanging SFL spirit of cultivation and responsibility. 

 

Finally, the 2025 Spring Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony of the School of Foreign Languages came to a successful conclusion amid the melodious anthem of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. All the participating teachers and students took a precious group photo together.
